June 2, 2025About Niederrheinische IHK
As a driving force behind structural change and a forward-looking service provider, we represent the interests of around 70,000 member companies from industry, trade, and services. Together with our entrepreneurs, we stand #GemeinsamFürDenNiederrhein (Together for the Lower Rhine) – in other words, for securing the future of Duisburg and the districts of Wesel and Kleve. In dialogue with policymakers, we develop strategies to strengthen existing strengths and enable new economic activities. In doing so, we advocate a free and social market economy, tax cuts, bureaucracy reduction, and improved location conditions. Instead of the state, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce performs sovereign tasks in a practical and cost-effective manner. In this position, we can independently represent the interests of our member companies.
Interpretation of location Duisburg
Whether compared nationally or internationally, Duisburg is a livable economic area and place to live. The city is located in the middle of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan area. Everything converges here: roads, railways, and the canal network surrounding Europe's largest inland port. This connects Duisburg to goods flows from all over the world. It also has a lot more to offer its residents: affordable housing and commercial space, a wide range of leisure activities, and job opportunities. Education and research are at home here: the University of Duisburg-Essen ranks among the top twenty young universities worldwide, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems sets standards. And as the Lower Rhine IHK we promote dual training in the region.
